Refund on tax disc
I bought a new car a month ago on 30th October, and i had only just renewed my old cars tax at the beginning of the month (i had used only 1 month out of the 6, so i had 5 remaining months on it)
so i downloaded the tax disc refund form and sent it off with my tax disc the next day special delivery (31st october - the last day of the month) so i am expecting a refund of 5 months tax....but that was a month ago and i havent heard anything since
i checked the tracking for the special delivery and it says it was delivered a couple of days later (i posted it at the weekend), i also sent off my notification of giving my old car to the motor trade the same day also by special delivery in a separate envelope (as it was the postal strike and didnt want it to get lost) and i got a aknoledgement letter from the DVLA 2 weeks after i sent it and they were both deliverd to the same place, the DVLA in swansea, plus i recieved my new V5 for my new car after 3 weeks.... all i am waiting for is the tax dic refund but i have not heard anything yet
before i phone them to ask what is happeneing (they say wait up to 6 weeks and it hasnt been 6 weeks yet), i just wondered how long it usually takes to get a refund on a tax disc? plus how is it refunded? is it by cheque? the website didnt say how it would be refunded.... i will wait another week or so and then contact them as it will be more or less the 6 weeks they say to wait
i made a copy/scan of the tax disc and the completed form, just to have proof in case there has been a mishap
how long did it take anyone else to get a refund on theirs?

I would wait the 6 weeks.
I have had a refund in about 3 weeks, (November 2008). and it was by crossed cheque.
As long as the disc was in the post on the last day of the month, you will receive the refund including the next month, i.e. in your case November will be included.
As you used special delivery, (wasn't required, PoP from the PO would suffice), then you should have nothing to worry about.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
thanks for the reply - it actually turned up this morning! it took about 5 weeks in all - as usual places are quick to take your money but not so quick to pay it back!
the reason i done special delivery (i usually just get proof of posting) is it was the week that the postal strike was on for a couple of days and the post was a bit dodgy with stuff going missing and taking longer than usual and with special delivery it was guaranteed to get there by a certain date and you could track it, didnt want to take any chances!0
