dirty rubber seal in washing machine

Has anyone had the rubber seal on the inside of the washing machine go stained, dirty and disgusting?
I have had machines now for 25 yrs and this has never happened.
I wipe round the rubber, lots of slime and have tried scrubbing it clean with cream cleaner etc, but useless and am now thinking of having it replaced.
I have a Bosch, anyone else had this happen ?
thanks

We've got the same problem with an AEG machine (think they are made by same people as Bosch) which is about five years old. Daren't try to scrape it off in case I break the seal...so any useful advice would be welcome. Don't remember this being a problem on previous machines.Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0
