My DS has ASD.
Last few months he has been excluded / sent home almost daily, if he is at school. Again today ive had to go and collect him
I am trying to work full time but its got to the point where the boss tries to understand but is getting really peed off with me taking time off constantly and not being able to do my job when i am there as im always havig calls re DS or im worried.
Am i right in thinking that if i get sacked i cannot claim benifits? I really dont want to and im in tears as i write this but DS needs me around at the moment. I dont know what to do, im fighting the LA at the moment trying to get DS a statement so we can then move schools. Its all just such a mess.
Also if i decide to give up work is there any help out there to support us until DS is in a school that can cope with his needs.
If anyone has any info i would be really greatful, apologies for my post being all over the place.

Hi,
Can I suggest that you look at the 'talk about autism' forum at https://www.treehouse.org.uk/talk-autism
There are many other parents struggling with similar situations and they will be able to offer you advice on how to get your son's educational needs met. There is also an exclusion support helpline at https://www.ace-ed.org.uk/
Are these formal exclusions, in writing with an explanation of the incident leading to exclusion? If the school is just phoning you and telling you to collect your son because they can't manage him, then you can refuse. The exclusion helpline will be able to give you more information about the exclusion process.
Jobwise, I think you have additional rights as you are a parent of a child with a disability but I don't know much about this. Whereabouts are you based? If you pm me, I might be able to offer more specific advice regarding your son's needs.
Do look at the autism forum. It is very good.0 -

Hi
sorry I don't have any advice, we haven't got to this stage.
Have you been on the asd friendly forum?? They are a great bunch with lots of help and advice. Any problem you've had you can guarantee someone will have an answer for it. And also they genuinly do properly know the ins and outs of such things!
Why are the school excluding him? Sorry if I am being nosy, but will it be worth staying off work? I don't work at the moment as there is nowhere for my son (with ASD) to go in the school holidays, plus I needed a lot of time off for appointments and I couldn't handle the stress. Yes I am bored and poor(!) but I know I am there when I am needed. It may not be right for your family though.
If your son gets middle rate of the care part of DLA you can get carer's allowance plus also extra tax credits. The tax credits I get now are the same as I was getting when I was in work. But I was only doing 16 hours.
Have you approached Partnership with parents about the school issues? They were great when we were having more problems and now my son has a statement. It's not perfect and not enough but it is far better than last year (he is only in year 1).
Also on a side not, I'm not sure about it really but I think excluding on grounds of a disability is illegal - clearly your son is having a tough time at school, have you been in and spoken to the school? (I know, easier said than done when working full time).
Sorry I was a bit garbled there! If you take anything from me take the advice to get over to asd friendly.org, they are fab.
