EA Gone Bust, How Do We Get Our Deposit Back

Newton Fallowell has gone under, we found our current home that we rent through them. They do not manage the letting though. We have just bought a house and are due to give our LL his notice this week but have just recived a letter saying that Newton Fallowell has gone bust and our deposit is with the tennancy deposit scheme. There is no forwarding adress nothing. Usually the EA would sort out the return of our deposit, how do we go about do this our selves?
One more thing the itinerary was completed by newton fallowell, will this still be valid.
thanks

Your landlord is responsible for the return of your deposit - an agency is a mere intermediary anyway so your direct legal relationship was always with the landlord who remains responsible for returning it to you. Some landlords don't realise that they are responsible for the poor actions of their agency and that they should take up issues directly with the agency while sorting things out with the tenants themselves. Let your landlord know that you will be seeking the return of the deposit from him.
Should your deposit have been protected in TDS and is so, was it?

The landlord is responsible for your deposit and its return. He should know where the agent has protected it and hence be able to release it from the scheme for you at the end of this tenancy.0
