Is this normal? She does it quite a lot... I was under the impression that only male dogs did this....

What age is she?It aint over til I've done singing....0

Coming up to 1 1/2, she hasn't been spayed as yet as she had a few probs when she was younger so wanted to make sure she was fully developed before having this done. Do you think this could be part of the problem?Team PINK arrived 28/05/2010 8lb 9oz0

is she due into season? it can also be a sign of her trying to dominate you and test boundaries (like a naughty toddler).0

Yahuh. Has she had her first season then? Mounting in females is sometimes a sign that their hormones are all over the show. She may well be due a/another season.
Any other symptoms? Off her food/quiet/naughty/dull coat?
Generally, any of the symptoms we get is what you'll see in some females, although its not advisable to give them a bar of dairy milk and a large glass of red wine and a hot water bottle! It aint over til I've done singing....0 -
Nope, not exclusively a male behaviour at all. In homes where there are multiple females, they will hump each other, particularly when one is in season.
My female has always been way more of a humper than my male. It's just an expression of excitement/play for her as she almost always does it when she's wound up an trying to instigate play with us or my other dog.
Just distract your dog and engage her in some other activity if you don't want her to do it.0 -
She's just about to finish her 2nd season so I'll see if she calms down when this is over... It is weird that she doesn't do it to my partner and it's always on my left arm when I'm on the sofa.. she also stops when he catches her about to try her luck.. I know it's not funny but I just don't feel that way about her lol.Team PINK arrived 28/05/2010 8lb 9oz0

Are you getting her spayed?0

Yes, got a vet appointment on Monday as they told me to bring her in for a check up first and then they will plan when to book her in. She came into season very quick after the first time so thought I had more time than I actually did to get her done.Team PINK arrived 28/05/2010 8lb 9oz0

My old terrier used to hump her bedding occasionally - but very enthusiastically and very noisily (lots of panting! lol) - normally when people came round - she seemed to like an audience!
My mums speyed b1tch tries to do it very occasionlly when playing and a bit over-excited, but responds to 'no' - I think talk to the vet about getting her speyed, then work on training her out of it too, after that.0
