Having used one now for nearly 2 years in our 4 bedroom, two bathroom house, the main issue I have with a combi is that I have to run the tap for maybe 10 seconds before the water starts to run hot. This is because the water heads from the boiler to where the old tank was before heading back downstairs to the kitchen. The advantage for me is that there is no pilot light burning 24/7. All hot taps seem to be at mains pressure and that there is an unlimited supply of hot water as it never runs out.

I have an old boiler. The permanent pilot isnt wasted becuase it is heating the cast iron block heat exch. Also, whilst a combi has a tap running,it is running at full output as it slowly heats the water up..all water(and its contained heat) which is run off whilst you wait for it to attain the reqd temp,is exported to outside/thrown out down the drain. In my olde world storage system, any heat loss from my foam lagged cylinger which lives in the house, leaks into the house and so there is no loss to outside. Also with modern system boilers and cylinders, recouperation time from full to empty can be well less than half an hour.

It is my view that combis generally represent a net wasteage of gas and water and present an un-necessary demand on the gas and water networks. In addition, they dont last long/are costly to repair and service. They can also be frustrating to use when your waiting for hot water.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Also my thermostat set to 15c is in the hallway and it usually takes very long time for it to get to that temperature, so it seems like the boiler is contiously running . The lounge on the other hand get very warm.
Then your radiators aren't balanced correctly.

You don't need to go to the expense of fitting TRVs (which are very overrated anyway), you just need to open the lockshield valve a fraction on the hall rad and close the lockshield valves on the lounge rads a fraction until both rooms are reaching the correct temperature.
