I have a house in Lancashire. Due to various reasons, I am currently working in Oxford and staying with relatives. I return to my house in Lancashire periodically and with currenty house prices do not particularly want to sell it. I also have a very cheap mortgage which I don't really want to lose. Is there any way I can let out the house except one bedroom which I will use when I return every few weeks without losing my current mortgage?
Any help appreciated as I am sure it is a bit of an unusual one.
Thanks in advance.

Unless you are desperate to keep that bedroom for your use, the easiest way is to ask your lender for consent to let on your existing mortgage.
If you don't want to do this then you could take a lodger which would not require the lenders consent, but that would mean (in landlord / tenant law) that the Lanceshire home needs to be your main residence. If it isn't then your tenants could argue that they are in fact tenants not lodgers and demand more rights, including quiet enjoyment of the property without landlord visits.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
