i ve called pc world and coming to fix it
but what does the warrenty cover

as ive taken the fan off as it was really hot and most of the *stuf* in between the fan and the processer was gone
so i wipe the stuff off the fan as it was just a mess
will this affect warrenty

    Warranty.

Make sure you put it back as when you first purchased it.

It's more than likely you have cleaned the thermal grease off the cpu chip, hence temperature rising.

As long as you leave it as when you first received, as it's only had usage that shows wear and tear such as dust and act like a dizzy housewife, then they should sort your problem out.

If you removed the thermal paste on the bottom of the heatsink, you should definitely put a small amount back on before PCWorld look at it - otherwise if you mention that you did this to them, they may well blame you for the overheating CPU.

You don't need to use a large amount - it's just there to fill the tiny gaps between the metal of the heatsink, and the silicon die of the CPU, so that all of the heat is efficiently conducted away from the CPU. Air is a very good thermal insulator!

If you ran the PC with no heatsink on the CPU for more than a few seconds, this may well have caused permanent thermal damage to the CPU - hence the reason it will no longer turn on.

Either way, you should argue with PCWorld that the PC was warning of high CPU temperatures and shutting down/crashing frequently

Yep nice lickle rice sized lump of artic silver, smoothly leveled across the surface.

I am sure you can buy some peel of strips, she'd better get some quick.
