Returning Goods Under Warranty?

Options
Hi guys,

I bought a product from an online website and it went faulty so I emailed them saying what do I do etc and they said to return it to the UK manufacturer as the warranty lies with them.

Fair enough I thought so I go about arranging the repair etc. It isnt a small mobile phone sized item so I thought about packing & postage and knew it wouldnt be that cheap. I have a feeling this item will cost around £5 to be posted.

I emailed them saying what do I do about claiming the costs back and they said their returns policy doesnt cover this.

Is this right? Can they do that as surely why would I have to accept the cost of it when its faulty having paid for the product in the first place?

Well your warranty is with the manufacturer, and they can charge you whatever they like provided it says it in the warranty information. If it doesnt then they cannot ask you to.

Otherwise you could use your statutory right under the sale of goods act, argue the phone is not of "satisfactory quality" and that you are entitled to a repair/replacementrefund(their choice not yours) at no cost to yourself. THIS IS WITH THE RETAILER ONLY, NOT MANUFACTURER. They may ask you to post the item but they legally have to reimburse you when you provide proof of cost.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
