Would you have felt nervous had it been a labrador or small terrier? Both those could easily be far worse in temperment than the rottie. I don't really see what there would be to say to her if the dog wasn't actually causing a problem?

I know you can say 'what if' but that could be said about all dogs, would you then have to ban all parents from walking any breed of dog to school to pick their kids up.

    That would get my vote.
  • Doesnt make it right though does it? Perhaps i should change my avatar as people maybe judging me by my picture

I didnt say it was right, however people do it all the time and its naive for anyone to think otherwise,
My OH is a big fella and ive complete strangers passing us in the street say really insulting things about him (and done it purposely loud enough for him and everyone else to hear)
Every single person that knows him would tell you right now that he is a fantastic bloke, everyone loves him, but people still take one look at him and decide for themselves what or who he is.
Its human nature to comment to a friend or too yourself about people, but when you do it loud enough just to hurt someones feelings... then your no better than pond scum (sorry... rant over)
and i imagine people do judge you by your avatar... but if you change it for them then your doing it for the wrong reasons :D

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand back to the dog fight!

Well, if you want to choose specific words from the highlighted ones I quoted, let's choose just two from yours. (Not the last two). Who wants a world full of fat dogs.
Or stick to original comment in full.

mikey you cannot be serious? have you ever owned a dog in your life? mum wont have time to walk the dog before the kids go to school, so she should leave it at home instead of exercising/allowing it to toilet until she gets home after dropping kids off?

even more of a ridiculous comment than "she doesnt look like she's very clever" imo!

Although an animal lover I am very squeamish and overly sensitive to large dogs. SO I was distressed today to see a woman standing at the school gates holding a very large rotweiller. She was on the pavement so just outside school property but only just and IMHO did not have a very firm grip on the dog's lead. It is a huge powerful looking dog. I felt really uncomfortable walking thru the narrow gateway past her with my 6 year old child and toddler in a pushchair. I didnt say anything, but wondered if I should have/could have? I dont know the woman personally, but have seen her about and kind of have a feeling I might have got a bit of lip back (dont think she is a verr clever lady either). But thats hardly the point - to me it just doesnt seem appropriate to be sttod right at the gates of a primary school witha huge rottweiler! By the way - I have just joined the school parent council, so perhaps I should also feel a bit responsible for other parents too?
I would really appreciate opinons from others if they would have felt put out / what I could do?
    Thanks!

let me re write that for you.

Today while taking my child to school I noticed another person I feel is a social outcast because I dont know them, with them they had a very well trained dog that only required a gently hold to ensure it remained in place, I belive the owner isnt very clever because again i dont know and want to make an assumption. I would now like to cause a big fuss about this and because i have recently become a member of the parenting council i feel its my job to bring this item up at the next meeting even though this took place off school property so i can reassure myself of my power.

well bearing in mind the recent death of the boy in liverpool, i would imagine its exactly the time to raise the issue at the parent council and see what strategies you can all think of. v difficult though as she is not on school property, there is usually a police liaison officer for schools, could you involve him/her

I believe that dog was a pit bull (dangerouse dogs act illegal) not a rottweiler different breeds different beasts completely.

p.s im not a rottie owner but this assumptions and alegations liek this that cause a large amount of problems for breed ownersthat are unfounded.

what we are talking about here is a mum on a school run who likes to take the dog out with her, its handy for her to do it at this time, and its good for the dog,

you are saying she should keep the animal indoors when children are about, what about weekends? what about school holidays?
if your so worried about fat dogs perhaps you shouldnt be so anti-walkies! :p

ohhh... none of this would be happening if Diana were alive....
