Additional Cost For Paying With Paypal

I should know this, but are you allowed to add on 5% for buyers paying by Paypal, I didn't think it was allowed any more. My wife bid on an item (BIN)and paid instantly with Paypal had an email from the seller saying as you paid by PP, you forgot to add 5% as clearly listed in the item.

Just want to be sure of me facts before I send him a snotty email back pointing out Ebay rules!

It's not allowed! Just reply to the email that it's against ebay's terms & conditions to surcharge for paying by Paypal regardless of whther the seller puts in in their listing or ask by email afterwards!

    the cheeky !!!!!!!
  • Thanks Dan,

Thought so but couldn't be bothered to trail through Ebays T&Cs. Knew someone would ask on here.

No worries...most sellers know this anyway..and build a little onto their p&p to take into account any Paypal fees, sounds like a new seller or just a cheeky one!

    Ebay's surcharge policy.

    Not permitted:
    • Electronic Money Services: Sellers who accept electronic money services as a means of payment for an item purchased on eBay may not impose a surcharge. Electronic money services include, but are not limited to, services such as PayPal, Nochex, FastPay or Moneybookers.

personally, I charge a postage amount, and give a discount NOT to use paypal

i.e. postage will be(say) 2 quid (say, the actual cost is 1.50 incl packaging but NOT your petrol, etc), knock 50p off if they DONT pay by paypal

kind of a surcharge in reverse,
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)
