blanket tour

Options
I was in gran canaria when we was asked to go on a blanket tour this was in October 2009. my wife and I was impressed with the bed and covers and placed an order totaling £1299.00 we was told we had 14 days to cancel. Unfortunatly I was made redundant last week and called PAL in spain to cancel the order as it wasnt due to be despatched till end of January 2010 and we would pay over 3 months i was told by the advisor that i would have to pay 30% of the order because i was cancelling after the 14 days i told them that i was in no position to pay and was threatened with court and bailiffs if i didnt pay i emailed there customer services dept and told them i wasnt happy with their bully boy tatics and told them my situation and what had happened. Even though im unemployed they still expect me to pay the 30% because its in the contract! Surely thet cant force me to pay this considering the circumstances im even thinking of complaining to Thomas Cook Tours who arranged the Blanket Trip. Is there anything I can do?

Er, surely they can! So many people post on here because they want to get out of something they've agreed to and think it's highly unfair that they cannot. You had 14 days to cancel in OCTOBER. You didn't. Therefore you lost the right to cancel without penalty. What you need to do is check the terms of the contract that you agreed to and see what it says. Maybe the company has started to make the goods you ordered and if you cancel it's going to cost them money. Why should they have to absorb that loss? Yes, it's tough that you were made redundant, but it's not their fault.

youre stuck with it my friend, you entered a contract, they arent interested in
your personal circumstances, theyre in the business to sell.

maybe you should have had redundancy insurance.

I;ve seen countless of these tours, the goods are usually massively overpriced because where do you think the money to pay for the tours, the buses, the staff etc. comes from. Its built into the cost of whatever theyre selling.
We went on a mattress and duvet one one day and i knew for a fact they were selling the same things in the UK for half the price. Other folk beware, go on the trips by all means but dont buy anything on impulse.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
