CIS, cunningham lindsey claim problems

Wonder if anyone could give me any help or advice on what to do.
I put in a claim on our house insurance with CIS, as we accerdently dropped a sauspan onto the top of the cooker hob (free standing cooker). We have accerdent damage on our policy just incase for this sort of thing.
We put the clain in about 2 months ago to CIS, Who then passed it onto Cunningham Lindsey. So we have had 2 phone calls, to both having to tell them the story. then Cunningham sent out a claim form which never turned up. Then it took them 2 weeks to send another one out. We sent it back, and guess what, they never got it. So a call to CIS this time, they gave me a direct e-mail address. which i sent them details of the cooker, age, and photos of damage. I didn`t have any paper work as it has been lost as cookers about 6 years old, and we have moved about 3 years ago, so proberly got lost in the move as cant find it anywhere.
Anyway the problem i have is this. I had a call from Cunningham tonight saying, i need to get a engineer in to look at the cooker and write a report on it say about how much to fix etc. I explained to both CIS and Cunningham that i cant afford to have this done when they said about it earlyer in the phone calls. They said if your claim is excepted you will get the money back. Only if its excepted tho.
She said tonight tho, that if i dont get it done, your claim wont go any further. end of.
Surely this cant be right? why is it me that has to do there work for them? Surely thats why i pay money every month to them incase things go wrong like this, i have a hasstle free claim?
Please can i have some advice on what to do? i going to Phone CIS tomorrow night to have a proper moan at them, but want to know if i need to say anything to them to buck there ideas up.
Thing is i have car insurance with them to. so will be canceing both if they dont come up trumps. And i have been with CIS a long time, but never ever had to claim.
thanks in advance

Ask a compant that repairs ovens to provide a quotation to repair the oven for insurance purposes. They will normally provide a written quotation free of charge as they will get the business if the Insurance approve the claim0

Hi there
Your policy will be subject to an excess. No matter what, this will be deducted from the final settlement amount.
Let's say that you get charged £25 for the quote and they say the repairs will be £175. This makes your total claim £200. From this, your insurers will deduct the £50 excess and send you a cheque for £150. You, on the other hand, will have already paid the £25 and only have a further £25 to find.
In another example, if the cooker is not repairable (and you've paid £25) then your insurers will replace your cooker and once again, you will still only have to find £25 towards the cost of this.
So in some ways, having to get an engineer to look at the oven is actually spreading the cost of your excess!!
If you really cannot afford to have the estimate done, phone your insurers and tell them what the problem is. Ask them if they have a company that they can appoint to inspect the cooker for you.In the beginning, the universe was created. Hi, yes i can see what you are saying, and would basicly cancel out my excess. The prices i have got to do a report for insurance is around the £50 mark. Now i can pay this (not this side of christmas) but my claim hasn`t even been excepted yet. They could turn around and say, nope not paying out. And from what i have been reading on CIS, they seem to be like this. So im now £50 down, which i could put towards a new one, or buy a second hand cooker to get us through.
Its getting closer to xmas now, and with out a hob, Xmas dinner is out of the question. was hoping they would of had this sorted way before now. Also where the hob has shattered, theres little splinters of glass keep forming, not good with kids about.
I have asked many a time for someone to come look at it from both CIS and cunningham, but both have refused to send someone as there is no one in my area.
Just hope i can get something sorted soon. its driving me mad.0
