I recently changed my insurance.(28th november).i had to send my new insurer proof of my no claims bonus.today i received a letter from them asking for a further £68 because i had said i had 9 years n.c.d.the renewal notice from my previous insurer said i had "5 or more years".i know that i have 9 years or more n.c.d.,and it is probably my own fault for not bringing this fact to their attention when i got my paperwork last year.would they have a copy of my previous renewal notice? I am certain that this said i had 9 years or more n.c.d.

Welcome to the forum. Great story. Not sure what you're asking, but I suggest you ask your old insurers to furnish you with a letter confirming your 9 years NCD and then send it to your new insurers.

Many insurers max out their NCDs at 5 years and therefore when you do a quote and enter 9 years (or select 5 or more years) etc it gets stored as 5 years or the operator simply types 5 years because it makes no difference and 80% of people have 5 or more years so it just becomes habit for them. Hence letters come out saying 5 or more years..... a previous employers system did count up to 9 but because people with 10+ years would phone and complain that their letters said 9 years (and due to the data entry issue) their letters simply said 5 or more years.

As has been suggested, some will go back and check their records to see if they can confirm what exactly you have and send you a separate letter to confirm
