teeth implants

firstly let it be known im asking on behalf of my mum and i dont agree with the stupid amount of money she has spent at her age [65] on having 2 dental implants and doing away with her crowns which were coming loose.
2 and a half thousand pounds on something comsmetic when at her age she will ecome suseptible [sorry can never spell that word] to losing other teeth and end up wearing a plate with falsies is rediculous imho, especially if claiming to be skint.
however the implants should have been fitted 2 months ago after the initial op to place the screw holes and do a bone graft
only today has she had them finally fitted. they have failed to fit on several occasions which begs the question does the dentist, who did for half the price quoted by our usual dentist, know what the hell he was doing? and should, given the problems she has encountered she be expected to pay what she was quoted? does she have grounds for a partial refund and if so how would one go about it?
again, i am not in agreement with this, what i deem as unecessary treatment, in any way.

Hi. I am sorry to hear about your mum's problems. You would probably be better posting this in the Health and Beauty forum:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=81
There is a dentist called Toothsmith who posts on dental matters and I am sure the folks over there would be more help.
Best wishes0 -
cheers. to point out 2nmonths ago after waiting the 3 mont healing process from the 'getting ready' tequnique.
im hoping someone will be kind enugh to move this for me.There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
Found it anyway Anthill!
Now - first of all I'm going to get cross with you!
It isn't up to you at all what your Mum spends her money on. She's a sane and responsible grown up, and the decision is hers.
It is NOT inevitable that old people loose their teeth - especially if they have their dental health as a priority and decide it's something worth spending a bit of money on. There are far more frivolous things she could be spending it on other than avoiding an old age of mashed potato and soup dribbling down her chin because she's lost the ability to chew effectively. So back off - what you 'approve' of is neither here nor there.
She could easily be as fed up of you who put up with pain and infection for months on end because your not prepared to put your hand in your pocket and get someone decent to take care of you.
Rant over! Friends again
Now - the actual treatment.
Your Mum will have (Or should have) had all the risks and pitfalls of this treatment pointed out to her at the start. There will be a reaon why it is a bit cheaper - maybe that dentist is still in training to do implants? But she should have been told this too.
The fact that something has not gone 100% to plan is not unusual - and at least the dentist has recognised this and delayed a stage of it until he is happy that things are right.
(This is why going abroad for an implant 'holiday' can be a bad idea. - What does the dentist do there if something doesn't go according to plan?)
You make no mention of the actual outome not being good - so I suppose that it has all gone well in the end.
So if your Mum is happy and the dentist is happy, job done.
Time to butt out!How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Retirement is for spending the money they've earned over the years on things they want to do .If the treatment has been successful and your mum happy with them.
The human body is not a uniform thing unlike a car its varies and sometime you have to fiddle with things to get them to fit. If you got a set of glass made you'd expect them to spend some time fitting them correctly to your fit.0 -
thanks, esp toothsmith. i consider my bottom spanked. ;-)
i just cant get over the daft amount of money spent when she is skint and i wasnt so sure she received the best treatment. she hated the whole process and says wouldnt have had it done if she had known.
i have read the records though and she was told the entailments so she either ignored or didnt understand in which case she should have asked.
anyways all over with now.
to insanity and beyond!!!There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -
Please do not go abroad for teeth implants due to a lot of horrendous horror stories after treatment.0
