Faulty Electric Blanket

My mum bought an electric blanket March 2008 from Argos. When changing the bed this week we noticed a brown patch on the blanket it looks like the blanket has been burning. We have the receipt and took it back to Argos there was a years guarantee with Argos but that ran out in March but on the packaging for the blanket it says there is a three year guarantee. Argos told us we would have to contact the manufacture so we did that today and they said we would have to deal with Argos. So who should take responsibility and replace the blanket?

Much easier would be to go via the manufacturer with the guarantee. The only responsibility Argos have is with the Sale of Goods Act (not that that's particularly small), but if you wanted to claim under that via Argos, you'd have to prove the fault was inherent.

It will be easier, cheaper and quicker to go via manufacturer.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

  • Thanks for the quick reply my mum will have to give the manufacture another ring tomorrow and be a bit more persistent.
