Santander credit card - how do you find out if you have been accepted or not

I have an A&L bank account and it flashed up the offer for the santander credit card with balance transfers.

I was wondering how they inform you if you have been accepted or not and how long that normally takes.

many thanks

I applied on 16 September. The application ended with "Thank you for your application", and that's it.

Two and a half months later, I haven't heard anything, not a single thing - not declined, nor accepted.

The least helpful application I've ever seen.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.
  • i applied last week and received the credit agreement to sign on monday this week.
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

I applied on the 15th Nov and still haven't had a response. They have an application queries number which is 0845 603 9820. Called them but it was not at all helpful was just told that they had written to me on the 17th (never received letter) and that I should write to them saying why I want the card. Most unhelpful call centre I've come across didn't tell me whether I would be accepted or not and had to request for the letter to be resent.

My OH applied the day after me as well and still hasn't had anything through so seems that haven't got a good system in place for processing applications.
  • My husband and I opened Sanatander Zero credit cards. We had a bit of trouble getting them set up but we persisted and finally all fell into place. We changed from TSB Visa on advice on this site, the 0% rating on spending abroad on purchases personal and business Unfortunately we have had so much trouble with them when you need to contact them. Because of the postal strike our statement did not arrive we called . Big mistake. We confused them because we did not have an account number only credit card no. , we were passed through about 6 people and eventually complaint to superviser l. My husband is not very good with passwords and has locked himself out of the account. We have been waiting for 3 weeks now for them to send his new passwords etc out to us. He has been passed around again and this time we are getting nowhere. We have sent off a letter to them as hopefully this will get to the people who can solve this. They really need to get themselves organised or they will loss customers faster than you are advicing them to transfer
  • I have had the same problem with mitsy. I applied for the santander zero credit card on the 18th November with no word since then. I the phoned up the application queries number who told me that I have been declined which I find pretty hard to swallow, considering I have a perfect credit score, on the electoral register, in full time employment and only one other credit card for which I have had for the past six years and now wish to transfer the balance over with all other credit sources (ie store cards, mobile phone contracts not in use) have been long settled and cancelled. The telephone operator was totally unhelpful and after much deliberation, I managed to persuade them to re-send their letter as they could not give me a reason for the rejection over the telephone. Fair to say, the worst service I have recieved in a long time!

phew, so it's not just me then!!! i'm kind of glad i didn't get any acknowledgement now, after all the reports of bad service!

  • When I applied online in October, it said I would get a response within 5 working days. After 10 days I had nothing so I called the application tracking number and they simply said "it's been received". 6 weeks after my initial application I got a pin number sent in the post followed by my new Santander Zero credit card.

Other problems: I'm having problems using the online credit card service (see another thread). I'm also finding receiving mail from Abbey (=Santander) to be really slow. Normally post from other banks arrive next day but the letters from Abbey are dated at least a week old.

BUT, the card itself is good (zero fees!). I set up a direct debit to pay off the full amount so as long as the card works and is accepted, there should be no problem. However, for a bank of Santander's size, it should provide much better service than it is currently doing.
