Win XP Home SP2 - Serious Error (blue screen)

Hey Hey
I was using my laptop, clicked sign out on msn messenger and then out of nowhere came a blue screen with an error message - saying:
Problem Detected - Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If this screen appears again you may need to check or update drivers for newly installed software/hardware or remove newly installed software hardware.
You may also disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing.
Tech Info:
***STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000014, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xA892F0A7)
***Udfs.sys - Address A892F0A7 base at A892D000, Datestamp 41107b7b.
Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
So I pressed CTRL ALT DEL but nothing so held the power button - when I reloaded into Windows it came up with the error reporting window below which I clicked on and did a screenshot of.

It then took me to this webpage on Microsoft
Anyone know what this could be about?? I do hope it's a one off because I dont know how to fiddle with laptops, only desktops
I haven't installed any new software recently well not that I remember
if it matters it's a Dell Inspiron laptop 6000 only a few months old
no probs with it yet... touchwood
Cheers,
Crabman

This started happening to me after i used the windows live window scan:o0

Sounds like either a USB device still attached at shutdown, or a driver issue.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Being a muppet after seeing your post yesterday, and them recommending the scam i decided to try the scan again and guess what? yes its started again, last time and this time i ended up doing a restore as i didn't know what else to do:oCrabman wrote:Hmmmmm - I used the windows live scan yesterday  How many times has it happened to you?0 -
Oooh that blue screen is flipping annoying!!! I know how you feel crabman - I was experiencing the BSOD a couple of weeks ago and my problem related to properly installing an updated driver for my graphics card - which the guys on here helped me solve :T .
Not much help to your current error screen I know - except to mention that I've had no problems at on my pc after using that windows live scanner, but I'm sure you'll solve it with the techie geniuses help on here :money: .0 -
Can you disable caching or shadowing in BIOS?
It's made a couple systems stable for me that had a issue with BSOD.
Also, Scan your C: drive for Udfs.sys. It should ONLY be located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers
If it's anywhere else (windows or windows\system32) then it could well be a nasty.0 -
Do you have a Cd or DVD in the drive? If so, take it out.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
