Just been into the loft to retrieve christmas presents and some of them are damp/wet. The felt is wet to the touch and appears to have been dripping on the chipboard flooring. It CAN'T really be narrowed down to a particular area is this normal condensation or is it a much bigger problem.

We are in rented accommodation.

any ideas on what we should be doing about this.

sorry had a typo it can't be narrowed down to one area.

Check the underside of the roof and do a visual check from the outside of the house then call the landlord and tell him you suspect a leaking roof.

It could be condensation but to be honest it sounds like you've got a leak to me, especially if the dampness is confined to a specific area.

Whatever the problem is, you need to let your landlord know as it's a health issue. Also if it is a leak, the problem needs sorting now before it becomes a much bigger problem.

If all the felt is wet and not anyone area, it may well be lack of ventilation.

Do you know if the eaves are vented? Is there much insulation in there or hardly any?

If you go up in the daytime, can you see day light around the edge of the roof?

    The loft could be sweating.

all the felt is wet, we did recently have someone to look at the roof as we had a leak from our bedroom ceiling. The roofer did mention that he could see daylight so he felted it all up so the sunlight could not be seen.

Yes, that's fair enough. I mean in the corners where the roof overhangs the brickwork.

Can you see any light from the eaves? There ought to be vents letting fresh air into the loft to circulate and ventilate it and keep it dry.
