will be having some tiling done in the next few weeks and a patch of floor about 10ft by 12ft isnt level witht he rest fo the room, we are also having underfloor heating put down next week over the whole room and the tilers have been saying it would be better to latex the patch first so its level witht he rest fo the room. Then lay undrfloor heating then latex again ready to lay the tiles.
The tiler wants £250.00 to latex the patch of floor and near £600 to do the room over the underfloor heating.
Was goign to attempt to do the latex myself but is it easy to do or best left to the proffessionals?

good luck, its a possible diy job, but its not easy mate. if its your first time doing it, in all honesty, i'd leave it to the professionals. the mix is vital.0

As I write I have a tiler applying various layers of screed to my kitchen floor. I am getting Amtico and the screed and labour costs more than the tiles!
I did have some initial levelling done by a builder and all he did was mix up a self levelling compund then pour it over the floor to let it find it's own level....that looked pretty easy. BUT...the kind of finish that this tiler is getting is streets away...and if the screed isn't correct then the whole floor will be a mess.
So...I would pay the professional.0 -
thanks, we are actually having amtico fitted in the lounge/playroom and hallway this week and they have put latex down yesterday and the guy which is doing that said he could do the patch for about £250.00 ready for the underfloor heating. trouble is and this is where it gets awkward we have a sub contractor doing the underfloor heating(next week hopefully) , then there will be a tiler coming in to put granite tiles down. all different people doing different jobs and it normally spells trouble. i dont want to pay this guy to do the patch only to find out when the underfloor heating goes down that he has mess around with it and curse the guy that put the latex down.
seems then that to let the professionals do it. thats another £250.00 gone!! never endsListen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
Why don't you call the guy doing the heating and ask if there are any issues to watch out for...ask him what level etc. Or even get him and the screed man to talk to each other so they can agree on what is to be done.0

Mapei fibreplan would cost around £400+ to do to 15mm
Mapei latex trade plan would cost approx £220 for 15mm depth
How much is the step, You can buy fast setting screeds that go to about 60mm in one hit
Labour, you will need 2 men one to mix and one to pour for best resultsHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0
