  • well you used to be able to claim back charges when you went over your overdraft limit but i think a new law got passed on the 25th stopping you doing this. my problem is i only knew about the charges when my bank statement came through 9 days later and as a student and it beingthe end of term i do not have the money to pay off these bank charges.

    any help would be great

Hi surfing monkey, there isnt a new law, the supreme court simply passed a judgment in the courts that the OFT couldnt assess a part of their charges under some legislation called the Unfair Terms in Consumer COntracts 1999.

Claims are on hold and if you have a read of MArtins guide http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/reclaim/2009/11/bank-charges-qa-door-reopened-for-reclaimers and news articles you should get a better idea of whats happening.
