  • I think the first thing you need to do is contact one of the debt charities whose details will be found on the boards, they will assess your suitability or otherwise for an IVA. A good insolvency practitioner will also advise without an initial fee. Do not go to a fee based advisory service.
I wish you well, and other MSE stalwarts will also be along to advise.
My own IVA creditors meeting is on 16th December !

No, there'd be no need to contact your place of work...

However, some people might find that an IVA would affect their job but certainly to a lesser extent than Bankruptcy - so on rare occasions YOU might have to tell your work. For example a soldier cannot go bankrupt or they lose their job so an IVA is an acceptable alternative - but may go against them for promotion. Some people working in the Finance Sector might find that an IVA is unacceptable so might have to leave their job.

Do you think this would have a bearing on your work? What type of job do you/will you have?

    Teacher?

A bankruptcy they used to move you schools (so nosey kids didn't read your name in the paper and give you a hard time apparently) and i think it had an effect on promotion but you didn't lose your job. No-one would tell your school or employers or anything but they'd find out (when your tax code changed or whatever)

An IVA has no such implications i think, done many IVAs over the years for teachers. No-one has to be told anything (but there is a miniscule chance that someone might find out from the Insolvency register - MINISCULE!)
