There's really no need to take the door off, it makes for much easer cleaning out of the mortise to leave it on.
Chubb locks are good. Just make sure you get the appropriate British Standards one, to comply with your household insurance.I find Viagra saves peeing on my shoe.....0 -
Its one of the easiest jobs you can actually do. A Locksmith will charge you approx £80 just to change it

The tools you will need- Sharp chissle
- Drill
- Drill Bit
- Screwdriver
- Hammer
- WD40
- Pencil
Good Luck
(It should take you no longer than 10 mins)Never do things tomorow when you can do them today.0 -
Nitin Hi,
It is very easy to fit a mortice lock, probably more so if you did'nt have one to start with. You can very easily fit it with the tools that Mclaren listeed, but even easier if you have a 'router'.
Place the lock so that it lays flat against either face of the door, at the height you want it to be. Mark a pencil line on the upper and lower edges of the part of the lock that will eventually sit inside the door. Transfer these lines to the front edge of the door and then mark the width of the mortice lock. You can then either drill out the recess required to the depth that you have previously marked on the door face, with the appropriate sized drill and chisel out the sides so it's even, or use a router. When you taken out sufficient for the mortice to sit in the door, mark the edges of the plate, and gently chisel that out so lock sits in flush with door. When you are satisfied every thing fits ok, take the mortice lock out again, place it on the door face again, and mark where the square bolt that operates the door handle is. Do the same for where the key hole is. Drill through both marks with appropriate sized drill, put lock back into door and then screw it to fix.0 -

on previous experiance of fitting new locks, ive often found that ive had to use WD40 after just for lubrication on the lock. Sometimes, the lock will be "sticky"

How can Easy Fit Conservatories, show customer testimonials on their website when they went BUST over Christmas and have only just started up?
They are also selling conservatories for only £2999 with a 10 year guarantee.
!0 Year Guarantee - from a company that have been in administration twice in the last 5 years.
Read some of the comments being made from past customers:
What a bunch of crooks!!! Same company, we too had same probelm with roof leaking, to be told that company doesn't exist, after answering phone same way. I'll be getting in touch with watchdog and citizens advice and chasing insurance company. Did catch them out and must have got a new girl on phone, who accidentally wrote to me and told me it was £70 per hour call out and had to be paid in advance, so that they would come out and fix leak and then next time we phoned were told that company had gone bust and was a new company now and nothing they could do. If I'd have known before purchase then would have never bought from cowboys - will be telling all friends and anyone who will listen to avoid them like the plague. Not sure where the happy customers letters come from on their website and where the got charlie dimmock from!!!! Avoid at all costs unless you like a central shower in your conservatory. They are cheap because the are rubbish.
I bought a conservatory 13 months ago. Now it's leaking. I,ve just found out the co. Easy fit has now gone bust.
I phoned them this morning and a lady answered the phone as "Easyfit"!
I asked if they still supply conservatories?, she said "YES" I told her I already have one & its leaking. She said a customer services person would contact me!! I knew this was going to be trouble! I am now chasing up the insurance co. who supply the guarantees.
as a former employee of taylor made and easyfit i have seen administration twice the second was done a bit dodgey to say the least the administraters work under the same umbella indego, ultraframe something called the latium group they wasnt interested in trying to raise funds all they wanted to do close it down so it could be bought on the cheap with no dept
