    Many thanks for the replies,

I spoke to my bank last night and they clarified what i already knew, my dd was set up and open, and the payments had been running fine before they had stopped. So there was no reason from the banks side of it for the payments to stop..

I started ringing round for quotes last night and was absolutly mortified to find that i would be charged more because i have been without insurance for more than 28 days.. and would now be paying way over the odds for somthing i have never claimed for..

Will just have to chalk it down to an expensive mistake and move on..

Would you please be kind enough to say which company it was you were with?

It'd be helpful to warn Insurer's other customer to check their policy is still active.

    Thankyou.

    Gerry x x

From what you have posted, and pending the outcome of the investigation you are waiting for, the mistake is down to your insurer, so why should you end up out of pocket?

Go back to them and get them to reinstate your policy. Then you can move elsewhere (if you want to) with no penalty when it expires.
  • yes sorry, its the Abbey,

Just to also clarify, i didnt receive any post from them either, i,m very meticulous about my post, for shredding reasons, so i am 100% sure they didnt send me anything.

    You can't be!

You can only be sure you didn't get anything.

Thank you, Hopefully you'll find a better deal with another insurer and end up benefiting from the Abbey's mistake.

    Good luck

The Policy is ironically called their "Peace of Mind" Policy and is underwritten by unsurprisingly Aviva. Could you ask for a worst combination Aviva and Abbey...

Citrine there is another recent poster who has had a similarish problem with Aviva and the official Aviva rep on MSE is looking into it for them. Try emailing her on rebecca.sibley@aviva.co.uk She deals with the complaints about Aviva on MSE on behalf of Aviva. Make sure you give her your policy number etc.

P.S I agree with Quentin, you should not lose out financially because of Abbey / Aviva's incompetence, so try and get this sorted out. If it was me I would also be looking for an exgratia payment for the inconvenience caused. Be aware though that if you push it they may ask you for the missed instalments

Is this true that if you have been without Home Insurance for more than 28 days, the cost of a new policy will be more expensive?

Citrine, you should not chalk this down to experience. Abbey have to sort this problem out for you. I came across a similar issue with another company, where a computer fault caused a number of policies to be cancelled/payments stopped. The decision was made to honour the cover backdated to the date the problem occured and to write off the missed payments. The payments were then recommenced at the previous amount, starting from the next monthly due date. In my opinion if this is Abbeys/Aviva's fault, they should be arranging something similar. If not you could quite rightly raise a complaint with the FSA and FOS.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

No, they will almost certainly direct Citrine back to the complaints procedure of the original company, which if it were me, and they had not solved or provided a solution to the problem through other means (preferable), I would be setting in motion straight away.
