Someone applying with my address

We are being inundated with quotes from insurance companies sent to our home address but in someone else's name.

It is the same person's name on all of the letters but no-one of that name has ever lived here! (And we've been here 23 years!)

My concern is that someone is obviously making multiple applications/requesting quotes for insurance but they are giving the insurance companies our address. Why would they do this???? And will they be harming our credit rating?

This is the second time that this has happened and even the postman thinks it's suspicious. He took loads of the letters back to the depot a few months ago to ask his manager what he thought was going on but I've heard nothing since.

Any advice very gratefully received from anyone!

Someone near you may be doing virtual quotes on line using a false name and your real address. (Wanting to know where to place their business before then buying via a cashback site - they use your address so that when eventually applying they won't have any cookie problem on their computer or previous quote on the insurer's database which could deny them the cashback).

These won't affect your credit rating.

Put them back in the post marked not known.

It is also common practice for certain companies to run queries against insurers websites to ascertain their pricing. To be able to generate quotes they need to use a valid address. Some use postcodes of their own offices and employees addresses etc but realistically if Esure was rate raiding More Th<n it would become fairly obvious to More Th<n when they start receiving 5,000 quotes a day for the Esure head office.
