Giving out your password over the phone - Virgin

Recently got a Virgin credit card. Phoned up to activate it and was asked my password as part of the security questions.
I thought this was something that was never asked, you only get asked certain characters of your password?
Anyone had any experience with this?

If you think that's bad form, you should see what Egg do. If they get suspicious about your transactions an automated system phones you up and goes...
"Hello, this is an important call from Egg...."
...and then goes on to ask you to authenticate yourself to them :rotfl:0 -
What's the point in having a password if noone is ever going to ask it!???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
They won't ask you for passwords personal to your own account handling - ie pin number, online login etc. However the one you set up in your application is setup for you to give when you call in!0 -

Totally agree, Its not the password you use for online banking etc (unless you do use the same password) Lloyds TSB do the same when you call them0 -
I tend to call their bluff when this happens to me. I will give them the wrong password, date of birth, or whatever it is they are asking for. If they are genuine then they will immediately come back with a reply like that isn't the details they have recorded for you and probably ask you again, whereas a scammer wont and you can just hang up.
At this point you will know if they are genuine and then can feel a little more at ease about giving out the correct information.

Very good advice.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I'm sorry, I don't apologise. That's just the way I am. Homer (Simpson)0 -

If you call MBNA / Virgin, they will ALWAYS ask full security. It is only when they call you that they ask partial security. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
