Well my little boy came home with a letter from school that they were requesting Christmas shoeboxes for children abroad, but they asked for donations for harvest festival and that went abroad too!

I wasn't best pleased about that when there are needy in this country and thought if l put a shoebox together l'd rather it went to some poor soldier who is going to be away from their family for Christmas.

I'm proud of it if l say so myself :o it must be one of the longest freebies on these boards waiting to be claimed...... l thought it would be claimed long before now! :rotfl:

What about Christian Aid or your local church or something - who may be able to distribute it too a 'needy' one?

Sorry don't want to be negative, as I think it's brilliant of you, and I know everyone wants to support our forces especially by making Christmas a bit better for them when they are away from home.

There may be a reason why your gift hasn't been snapped up -

Unfortunately well meant parcels don't always have the desired effect, especially at this time of year, as an influx of parcels clogs up the system and sometimes parcels from friends and family don't get through due to the volume of post. My OH was away over Christmas, and he was disappointed to receive a 'Corporate box' full of impersonal gifts from well meaning companies, but the parcel sent by me and our children unfortunately didn't reach him until after Christmas - despite me posting it in plenty of time.

Maybe save your parcel till after Christmas to give someone a boost then, or there are charities which send boxes and the route they use to send them makes sure that the personal post to those serving is not affected by the parcels they send. Try the website called support our soldiers, or similar.
  • My thought is that people don't like to give the personal details of serving personnel out to people they don't know, I know if I gave out my partners details he'd kill me.

Can the solider it was originally meant for suggest a friend or colleague of theirs?

I don't want to be a pain and go back to ask (it was off this board in the first place) l'll get back in touch with Support our Soldiers, their parcels went this weekend so l'm too late for them, l thought l'd ask here again as l wanted someone to have it for Christmas not after.

Would it suit for a soldier / sailor / airman who's working Xmas Day in the UK? Could you hand it in to your local Station as a gift for a UK based person (after all, they could be going away shortly afterwards anyway, or maybe just returned from tour?)

I'll put a word of caution in here (Hi Spike)

The boards over there can be a little robust with new posters and this sort of thing!
