Maybe there's another angle. Being off work is an awful thing and doesn't do anything for your confidence so if theres an offer to keep you hand in then why not take it. I understand you must weigh up your options and not disadvantage yourself in the process so I hope it works out ok.

Well, it does mean you're doing something more exciting than job hunting and it does look good on your CV.

Didn't think you could get JSA if doing 20 hours?

Why can't you update your CV and job search for the other twelve days that fortnight? Don't forget to tell your adviser you are turning down offers of work.

What is the point of not accepting the work?
  • my confidence is fine,im not long term unemployed so its not an issue.would u work and be out of pocket?

Apart from the first five pounds, anything you earn is deducted from your JSA for that week. However, if you earn more than 60 pounds for those two days then you are still better off taking the work.

Also, ask your job centre if there is any chance of getting the money later as a back to work bonus.

Remember that if you work well over these two days, you might get something else from the same people later, and you will have an up to date reference for any future employer.

  • kim the point in not accepting the work is that im going to be out of pocket after doing two days work, which surely defeats the object?would you do two days work and end up worse off?
