metric and imperial meters such a vast difference
hi, i used 58 units of gas converted to 662kwh in january costing 30 but i have since moved home in oct and for last month i used 55 units/ 1718kwh costing 65. first home was metric meter second imperial meter.
i was with npower in both homes. what i dont get is in second home i'm not cooking with gas as in first, i've got 5 radiators now instead of 7 and i dont have heating on any more now than i did in jan.
i've called npower 3 times got various people saying my tariff changes, winter usage etc etc but the fact i dont understand is why the large difference in kwh to the same usage? i'm on benefits and my gas and electric for the last few years was around 40 elect and 15 gas paid dd now this month alone its 57 elect and 65 gas and my dd for gas are going from 25 (i increased from 15 cos of price rises) to 50.
i cant afford this so for the last few days i turned off the heating but its freezing -4 today. the house is cold most of the time even with the heating on as radiators dont seem very good. rented property so not much i can do i think.
any advice please to why my usage appears to be so high and what i can do to make sure i'm being charged correctly?
thanks for any tips and help.

A gas unit on an Imperial meter is 2.83 times bigger than a gas unit on a metric meter.
1,718kWh in a month at this time of the year is not excessive. With npower you pay more in the winter because they charge for more higher priced tier 1 units in winter(seasonal weighting)
Your very low consumption last January could be due to estimated readings.
As you say you use the same amount of heating, the 2 major factors that affect gas consumption are the efficiency of the boiler and the standard of insulation of the property.0 -
and the temperature that you have the hot water or central heating set to as well.0

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

thanks all. i lowered the thermostat to 18 from 20, water temp at the upstairs tank from 70 to 68.
house is freezing so must be the boiler is inefficient, how do i stand legally with making landlord upgrade boiler and rads?
