Well thanks for the info, I've read on here about people being lucky in the past getting it re-instated, but seriously if they don't have the DD set up it's the risk they taek.
However, as I say thanks for the warning. If it encourages just a couple of people to create the minimum payment DD then it's been a worthwhile post.0 -
the continuation of the zero percent was very kind of mbna in the first place
I understand (and do actually agree with) what you are saying, but I did smile at the idea of MBNA being "kind".
They are not in the business of being "kind", they are in the business of lining their bank accounts. They are sharks, just look at the posts on here where people have had their APRs hiked to 34.9%.
The reason they generally will allow a "first offence" without enforcing the loss of a promotional rate is for their benefit, not the customers. They want to avoid aggrevating people straight off in such a way that the customer goes elsewhere, and they also know that the sort of person who misses a payment once is likely to make the mistake again, the second time they are not seen to be so harsh in enforcing the removal of the promotional rate.
Personally I don't like Direct Debits, but the MBNA online services are very good and there isn't really much reason not to be able to make a payment ontime using their website.0 -
As your saying Nick, no DD is fine as long as the payment is made, but how many times have you read on here that "I forgot" or my favourite "circumstances prevented me" from making my payment! For this kind of person a DD is the only sure way to pay ontime. Incidently, I'm of the "I forgot" ilk, hence having DDs!
It's not even the missing of the payment, it's the expectation that someone else somewhere is responsible and should fix it. Nobody takes the blame anymore.0 -
Had happen... to me... because of their worst online payment system! I paid it a week before and they didn't update it! I'd write them (to complain dept) but no proper response till now.....
Advice: DO NOT EVER APPLY FOR MBNA! had issues from day one!:mad:0 -
Does anyone know if you can make direct payments to these cards, on-line from your bank account?0

We have had an MBNA card for about 4 years now. My regular apr
is 12.88 percent per annum. We are always being offered excellent rates for balance transfers. My advise is provided you set up a dd at the start then you should encounter no issues.0
