Last time I checked 9 months ago it was still possible to buy boosters that amplified only analogue signals. Digital passed through with no gain. Check the specification to confirm amplification of digital signal.

Never heard of that before, we learn something every day.

That's because it is complete BS.

Oh dear. I must have imagined it with the one I bought then. And the disclaimer on the pack about being unsuitable for Freeview was just a trick of the light I suppose.

I think that Andy meant bring the TV Aerial LEAD in to the loft.
    correct.
aerial lead from aerial on the the roof connection into the loft, where it would be a good idea to have the booster/splitter, and from there you can easily add to the other rooms.
when we go digital in 2012 and all analogue is turned off, booster will still work, it boosts the signal strength from the incoming signal, to the output of the tv's, the more tvs connected the signal weakens analog, and if i'm wrong, still a good way to split than to use a standard Y splitter, as i got 2 connected in my room alone, 1 goes to the hifi for the radio, opps make that 3, forgot about the freeviewbox which goes from the freeviewbox to the input socket on the booster, so on the booster i have a Y splitter on the input. aka my bedroom freeview box to the input on the booster so that i can put the signal to everyroom in the house and next door.

tv signal comes into the house from outside aerial into booster, 1 output into my bedroom into the freeview box, back into the loft and into the booster, where i have the outputs going to 3bedrooms, lounge and next doors house. Sounds complicated but its not.

Yes thanks, I knew that, I forgot to add the " sarcastic " smilie.. ;)
  • Seems to have resolved itself. We have just had the final digital upgrade to the transmitter for our area (NW) and I can now get all the channels on both TVs at the same time :j

I gather last night the digital signal strength has been increased with the shut down of the analogue signal in the NW, a bit like a free aerial signal booster!

The range of frequencies used by FreeView is exactly the same as that for analogue UHF TV. The only difference between analogue and digital is the way that the signal is modulated. Any UHF amplifier will work for either. It is just possible that there was a note about not using it with a digital satellite or it not working for digital radio (DAB)
