HSBC Bank Charges

Hi,
Not sure if any of this has been covered before but we'd appreciate any help or advice!
We've been hit with bank charges from HSBC. We have a £250 overdraft limit which we always just about managed to stay within until October when we exceeded it and went around £430 overdrawn for a period of about 10 days.
HSBC charged us £80 in November for exceeding the limit then a further £150 is being taken this month. It's all for that one period of 10 days but because it stretched across two of their charging periods they're charging us twice for it.
I managed to claw back £25 from them last month so we only paid £55 but they're refusing to back down on the £150 even though it was effectively only over one period.
I've argued over the phone but struggled to get my point across so I've been into the branch today in the hope of speaking to someone face to face. They told me they no longer have any authority over bank charges and it all has to be dealt with via telephone banking.
Is it worth us writing to the bank or are we just fighting a losing battle?
Thanks.

What are the charges actually for?
HSBC charge £25 each time you arrange an overdraft formally, or informally. So if it was one transaction that took you over to £430 and then nothing for 10 days, then payment back in, then you will only be charged once.
If over those 10 days you went, -£260, -£290, -£350, -£370 etc. then you will be charged £25 each time.
Also bare in mind, they do not charge for ones which are less than £10 as I recall.... something to bare in mind next time?0 -
Hi, thanks for the quick reply! The lady in the branch told me today about the £25 charging, they were charging us per transaction. It wasn't just one transaction that took us over unfortunately.
It's worth knowing about the £10 thing though although we're hoping not to be in that position again!House sale/purchase progress (we're selling our rental property and currently living in rented so no pressure to complete both on the same day).
