Moving Electricity meter

I have the upstairs half of a converted semi and obviously to save money the freeholder left my electricity meter below the stairs in the lower flat. Inconvenient.
Presumably my energy suppliers are the only ones authorised to move it and they want £100 just to come and estimate resiting it to the other side of the stairs.
Whose responsibility is it to pay for the relocation?
TIA

Why do you need access to the meter? I would have thought that only the guys reading the meter need access to it anyway?0

Often they can't get access to it and for long periods in the past I haven't been able to either. I ended up with a £300 bill because of estimated charges once.0

i would contact your landlord then and get him to arrange for the meter to be relocated. why not get it mounted externally so that no one need to enter the property to get a reading?
I doubt that you being a tennant cant instruct the electric company to move the meter and your lanlord could make you pay for any damage the move may cause.0 -
key/card meter perhaps?0
