Not sure why the OP is having problems with HSBC, I have used them for years, never had a single problem with them.
They are far better than Halifax, Nationwide, ING and Cahoot.0 -

I'm with 1st direct and can't recommend them enough. I do everything online and never had a problem.
Interesting about the security. I had a couple of cards compromised last year and HSBC/FD were straight onto them and didn't allow any transactions through. I was impressed.0 -
I used and have always used LTSB for current account. Their security seems good with a three step log in (Username, password then three random digits from you memorable info using dropdowns. If you set up a new payee, they phone you using an automated service where you have to enter the code into your phone that you see on the screen.
FP works online now too - it was hitherto very haphazard.0 -
We would like an Online banking account which works in real time, i.e. if you draw £10 it is reflected on the Online account instantly as per any other transcation except cheques obviously.
At present we are with Alliance & Leicester and they must have the worst Online banking system in the world. Sometimes drawing cash from an ATM is reflected on the account for two days. Card paymenst can take up to 5 days to be reflected in the account. On two occasions we did go into unauthorised overdraft for 1 day due to their mis-management of our account but on both occasions they eventually waived the £5 fee when i pointed out the errors of their ways!
Worst of all, if your wages are paid in on a Friday at midnight and your balance is low, on the Friday it shows up that you are well in credit, but on the Saturday it all changes and makes it look as if you went into unauthorised overdraft!
More annoying is that they reject Paypal payments on a number of genuine websites, i.e. Auto trader!
I cannot recommend Alliance & Leicester but would like to know of an Online account where they work in real time. We never go into overdraft so have no issues with charges etc.0 -
Personally I don't like halifax, I don't think it is easy on the eyes for a start. Was amazing when it was the only bank I had that you could do faster payments from online but Lloyds now do this. Extra security when setting up s/o's and bill payments is good and very simple. You can apply for all sorts of different things, e.g. cc, loan, savings, current acct. There is a self-service section where you can order chq books, pins, debit cards, cert of interest etc so saves you having to call. All of your account's including loans and cc's also show up so everything in one place.I work for a travel insurance provider.0
