  • I bought this Candy condensing one from Argos earlier in the year (at £179!) and it has been good so far

If you can avoid a condenser dryer, I would. Great when there's no way whatsoever to vent out but not that brilliant when you can. ;)

  • A little over the price of the OP.

I've had enough!! Our Washing Machine packed up - 11 weeks to get a new one from an 'Insurance' Company, they said it was the motor, there was nothing wrong with the motor it was probably just a relay switch but ho hum - first claim, took it on board!

Now the Tumble dryer has packed up, the insurance Co say 'It's beyond economical repair'. Repair man said it needed a diffuser diode (whatever that is) and would be around £100, Insurance Co agreed and back he came to fit new Diode thingie. It didn't fit. Said he would have to order new control facia, Insurance co again, deemed it beyond economical repair.

Have checked internet spares site and the diode thingie is only £8.99, why have the insurance co deemed it BER?

Seems like a huge con to me - any suggestions, I am paying out for insurance and as soon as something goes wrong it's deemed BER and they ask me to pay over 60% towards a new machine in addition, they only offer me 40% of the depreciation value of the old one. Something is not right, my machines are less than 5 years old.

Your post alone is worthy of a new thread, breaking the post down into 2 sections, 1) Washing machine fault 2) Tumble dryer fault.

If you describe what each appliance does / does not do, then explain to us which product over you have. I used to have Domestic & General Insurance on the dryer that was recently scrapped by the engineer, and a replacement dryer issued free of charge.
  • The W/M is now sorted out. The dryer did a dry, then I cleaned the condenser (have done many times before) and put it back. Then it decided not to work. It's a Zanussi TC7276W. All 3 lights came on and the start/pause button flashed. Switched the whole thing off and set it to '0' and tried again, same thing. Engineer stated the bit at the back of the start button in the diode thingie was broken and it needed a new diode (luminous diffuser diode). We too are using D & G and are not happy with them keep saying our machines are BER.

We have a term on the bottom left side of the page that says that they will replace the item if its beyond repair.

    Take a look..

Not a Hotpoint. I have a condensing one and the noise it makes is horrendous. Our kitchen was next to the livingroom and we couldn't hear the TV when it was on. We've since moved house and it's now out in the garage.
  • Re: The Zanussi Tumble Dryer (sorry if on wrong thread but a newbie)! D & G wrote it off and phoned us to say (we don't have 'new for old') that their replacement dept had decided on a new Zanussi, and we had to pay them £229 (inc delivery) and they would arrange it. I asked them why it had been written off and they stated the repair dept had stated it would cost £175 to repair. Long story short, we purchased a replacement diode thingie for £8.29 including delivery, a friend of ours - a qualified electrician/engineer - fitted it in 10 mins for a tenner - and the tumble dryer now works perfectly! D & G obviously wont insure it as they haven't had it repaired/replaced, but I'm happy with the way it is!

moral of the story don't buy stupid insurance policys that don't really pay out instead payout when it does go wrong.
flavel gas cooker died 6yrs cost £240 binned when would have cost £160 to repair replaced with stoves
bosch washing machine cost £280 5yrs old never broke down
bosch tall freezer frostfree a+ rated cost £500 internet ,comet price £650 saved £150 bought last year
bosch undercounter fridge a+ rated cost £240 internet, comet price £320 saved £80 bought last year
bosch slimline dishwasher AAA rated cost £300 internet, normal comet price £500 saved £200 on special comet price £360 bought last year
moral internet saves hundreds don't was money on guarntees unless you buy rubbish and invariably it doesn't
sorry for going off topic :)

A little over budget, but I've had one of these for years and has been faultless. Never had condensation. Water collects in a slide out container. Has built in sensors so will stop when clothes are dry.

    Bosch dryer

Well worth spending just that little bit more. IMHO!
