Insurance for storm damage to fences/gates

For the first time in many many years I have tried to claim on my insurance - for storm damage to a garden fence amounting to about £400. Of course my insurer was quick to tell me that I wasn't covered ... when I said I wasn't very happy about that, he said NO insurer will cover for storm damage to fences or gates. (If Tiger Woods had backed his car into the fence that would be different - I'm covered for impact damage.)
Does anyone know of an insurer who will cover storm damage to a garden fence? I just want to wipe the smug look off my insurer's face - it would give me great pleasure to say to him "And N-F-U too" (oops, did I accidentally give away the name of my insurance company?)

Hi
Not come across any Insurer that will cover storm damage to fences and gates.
The reason being is that fences and gates are too prone to being blown down. This is particularly the case when you have wooden fence posts that rot in the ground.
The risk would simply be to great for Insurers to cover. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
I believe RIAS (over 50s insurer) offer such insurance as an extra on their house policies - called something like garden cover.
There may be others0 -
No standard home insurance policy has covered storm damage to fences since the 1987 storms.
Sorry. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Fences used to be covered by most policies until the Hurricance of the late 80's. Insurers received literally millions of claims for damage to fences. The options they were left with were to leave fences covered but increase everyone's premiums permanently or to exclude cover for fences and keep the premiums low. They chose the exclude cover0

You can get all risk policies that will cover damage to fences but you are generally looking at least at full fat Mid Net Worth policies if not High Net Worth and many have minimum premiums of £1,000+All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

As the chaps above say. No one covers it except as an add-on or super duper cover product. NFU have a fairly good rep.0

Zurich will pay for storm damage to fences and gates IF there is also storm damage to the house itself. Haven't found anyone else who will though (and I work in insurance claims and have done so for 20 odd years)!! :j
I had a new fence for £750 in the big storms in Jan 2006 as a result!0 -
