Scrappage Scheme Error

For what it's worth I've been through the paperwork and checked - I signed nothing that declared I already had an MOT at the point of ordering the new car. Pretty much all of the scrappage stuff is handled by the dealership and was done when I came in with all the required documents.
But this is a key point of scrappage that it has an MOT at the time of the deal. Not that it is MOT'd later.
If you had MOT'd it just before the deal I would see your argument but if it wasnt MOT'd when you made the deal then it clearly didnt qualify and I dont think you can blame the dealer as it isnt a technicality issue but a fundamental of the scheme you didnt meet.0 -

Oh what a mess for you. But as said, its down to the dealer to check the paperwork is in order and you were eligible for the scrappage deal. Our dealer asked for copies of the insurance/tax disc/MOT before the deal was agreed. If your guy didnt, then its up to his dealership to fork out for the loss, not you.0

Well I think it is the dealers fault but he has been upfront in admitting this and you might have checked as well, so you offering to divi up 10% of the extra would seem fair to me (assuming also that you will probably want to get it serviced at the dealers for the first year).0

The dealer is at fault, tell them that you are not paying for their mistakes.
They will have made a fortune out of the scrappage scheme throughout the year, they can afford to take the hit on this one.0 -

Its not up to the buyer to know the ins and outs of the motor trade/scrappage deal - its the job of the dealer. Why should the OP be liable ?
You can have the car serviced at any agent, no need to go back to the place you bought it.0 -
Just a quick update on this - I have spoken to the people who run the Scrappage Scheme at the "Department for Business Innovation and Skills - Scrappage Scheme" and they have told me that it is clearly the responsibility of the dealers to check the paperwork at the time the sale is agreed. They say this is in their guidelines on their website. They pointed out that I might have to explore my consumer rights if the garage try to get more money out of me, but essentially, as far as the scheme goes, the responsibility of fault lies with the dealership. Yay!0

Result, wasn't Adrian you spoke to was it? Reading this thread reminds me I have to call them again to get an answer on my ongoing scrappage scenario:rolleyes:0
