Renewing/re-routing mains water supply

I will soon be moving house and need to "DIY" several jobs, so any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated...:D
The mains water supply seems to come into the bathroom (it's a bungalow) in lead pipe from the street. I intend to relocate the kitchen, and therefore the water supply to it. Any ideas on the best solution?
Thanks
Ed

hi.
your best answer is to find out if the lead goes right back to the stopcock on the boundry of the property. if so, i would recommend you install a new 25mm service pipe from were the boundry stopcock is to the new location required for your kitchen.
if the lead main does go back to the stopcock, your local water authority are required by law to replace any lead mains when requested to do so. however, as i said above, i would install a new waterservice first (to the kitchen area), then call them and ask for the lead main to be replaced as they are only responsible to replace the main from the sopcock in the street to where your boundry starts.
they will replace the exsisting stopcock with a plastic asplas box(including watermeter), and will connect your new waterservice pipe for you as well. you will have to ensure that the internall plumbing is ready for when they install the new connection as they will NOT leave two connections.
there are certain regulations which you will need to adhere to when installing this new service but you should be able to google it and find out what you need, or you could contact your local water company and ask for advise on installing a new water service or contact your local building inspectors who should either give advise or point you in the right direction!!!
