what an ideal solution: someone who needs it will benefit and he'll feel great having taking in a contribution so everyone will feel great!

Here's another one - back when I had a pay as you go phone I put £5 on it in Asda, the kiosk girl was chatting to her friend while she did and even though I tried to stop her she credited my phone with £50 by mistake. I was in my lunch hour from work so I ended up late back cos of them ringing virgin to try and recover the money. I had to go but they kept my top up card and said they'd sort it out.

A couple of days later they rang and said that they couldn't recover the money and that I could keep it (good job cos I couldn't have aforded to pay it back).

The top up lasted me 8 months.

I would either take them back and pay for them, or put equivalent amount in a charity box. I wouldnt worry too much though, its not like you did it on purpose!

  • this is my first ever post on here, but this thread has been right up my street!..... even so, I have enormous respect for anybody who can feed a family of four for 5 quid a week.

I actually can't believe it is possible. is it possible?? I struggle to feed my family of 5 on far more than that - and yes, I bulk everything out with lentils!!

great thread, money savers. thankyou for all the tips!!

I am always 'forgetting' to pay for things on my buggy, and i reckon lots of people do, they call it shrinkage, its not classed as theft as mothers have their hands full.

It was probably me who caused the price of food to shoot through the roof :D

Im sorry but i would class it as theft and the excuse that your hands are full is not valid.

To avoid "accidently" forgetting to pay for items then dont put them in the buggy use a basket!!!!

I think your comments are a bit harsh sweetstudent, I don't think someone would post that unless they were honest. Haven't you forgotten anything in your life?

People can get really harassed if they are juggling shopping and a couple of young kids, and don't say they should leave the kids at home, cause that isn't always possible.

actually Lynne I am with sweet student on this front - the OP said "forgetting" and it doesn't count as theft as mothers have their hands full...as if to justify it. I am a mother, I do my weekly shop on my own with my DD and i do NOT "forget" to pay for items. Now if I ever had, on my next trip to the shop I would explane what happened and offer them the money, if they didnt want it, id fire it in a charity box.

Sorry but theft bugs the pith out of me! because yes phatmouse, its people that "always" do things like that that DO put the cost of MY shopping up! why am I paying for your "free" beans!

    Hi my wee pal,
I'm glad to come across you again, but I think we'll need to agree to disagree on that one. I'm not into thieving myself, but I might be reading it differently to you. If you are struggling with wee ones, you can forget stuff, I'll grant you not every time you are out though.;)

It's a pity our thread ran out of steam, how's the diet going and are you still baking?

Just remembered when my ones were wee (the brothers and sisters that is), one of them put stuff into the tray under the buggy, my mum did take it back right enough and the security guard just laughed and told her to keep it. I guess honesty is the best policy.

see my new post below. written due to new comment by phatmouse.
