Boston baked beans are haricot beans, I think. Haven't got a recipe but I think someone further up the thread has. Basically, its home made baked beans with tomatoes, spices, onions and bits of bacon in. Much, much better than a tin.0

Hi all, I'm thinking of making the stuffing a lentil bugers mentioned earlier in this thread. Has anybody tried using home made stuffing (seems like a good use for all the stale bread we throw away).
I've seen recipes for HM stuffing before, they generally involve baking the mixture in the oven. This might seem like a stupid question but here goes.
Would I mix the cooked lentils in with the stuffing and then bake in the oven or bake the stuffing first then mix in the lentils.
Also if I do go with the HM stuffing do you think it wil freeze okay ?

Ive made them with HM stuffing and I wouldn't do either, the stuffing used is straight from the box so raw as it were.
Just add your HM stuffing ingredients to the lentil and egg mix, shape into burgers then cook. I see nothing in HM stuffing that would have any problems being frozen.0 -

Most people here seem to just bung them straight into whatever they are cooking, however I do like to rinse mine. I usually rinse them in cold water and then leave them to stand for a bit in a jug or mug of boiling water, to soften them a little whilst I prepare the rest of the meal. I find it reduces the cooking time and stops them absorbing so much liquid from the rest of the ingredients and helps if you want them to cook to a mush (disappear).Mortgage

On a similar vein I dry fry the mince until it's browned then put it in a sieve & pour a kettle of hot water over it. I read somewhere that this reduces the fat content by 20% or similar. It's brilliant :T0 -
I was reading a thread a while ago that had a really chicken curry recipe that was really stretched. The thread was about someone having £20 left for food for the whole month and their meal plans. I thought it was feeding a family of 4 for £20 but can't find that.
I remember the poster saying that 1 pack of chicken thighs made 16 meals or something mad. Just need to know what else to pack it out with, bought the cheap jar of curry sauce which is the only other bit i remembered.
Thanks0 -
