This may be a wacky suggestion but if you have even a tiny garden you could consider getting 2 ex battery hens (free from rehoming centres) - they would give you plenty of free eggs. Obviously pls only consider this if you are willing to give them some love in exchange for their eggs. I know people disagree about what to feed hens - as always there's the ideal and the practical - but anything would be better for the hens than living in a battery farm.
what a nice idea. one day I would love to do this once I move to a bigger place.Looking forward to the future.0 -
If you are making shepards pie / mince add a big handful of porridge oats after browning mince & when you add water. Sounds awful but once it is all cooked you cannot tell the oats are there.I have been doing this for 20 years and no one has noticed yet.
It makes mince go much further and it also makes the meal cheaper and healthier.0 -
Hi all I just wanted to recommend www.fixtureferrets.co.uk as I have used this a while now and it's great. You can see all the deals the main supermarkets are doing, including BOGOF etc and maybe we could all share on here who is doing what? It costs a few pounds to join but saves much more than that if you check it often and take advantage of the deals.
www.mysupermarket.co.uk is also great a) as a way to shop btu b) a great comparison tool for prices, even if you just intend to pop down to your local Tesco / Asda etc xMFW #185

Hi all.
It's taken me 3 days to read the whole post, but it's definitely been worth it. What brilliant ideas. Must try them. Should save a whole load of pounds with them.
BF is a fussy eater, but only need to cook for him couple of times a week and will slowly introduce all the stretching the meals ideas.

I am just stunned at what you've achieved here and I think it's absolutely fantastic. You should be so proud. It's really helped me see how I could improve on both my shopping and my budgeting.
Thank you so, so much.

Wow! Just thought I'd pop in. Cant believe this thread is still so near the top!
October is going much better. Apart from milk and bread (got a bit slack with my breadmaking!) I have stuck to my original plan. I'm definately going to to monthly meal plans from now on. I can't believe how much money I've saved!0 -
