JSA / Income Support Advice Needed

Hi all,
Could anyone advise us on the following.
My partners contribution based job seekers allowance is due to end on Dec 14th. She is under 25 and has been on JSA for last 6 months and before was working fulltime.
I have been self emplyoed from June this year and before that i was also on contribution based job seekers allowance for 6 months after i lost my job of 9 years. I am now thinking of ending my business due to paying to much to keep it open and not much work coming in.
I am on Working Tax Credit at the minute due to low income but this will end once i close the business up in the next few weeks.
My question is the Job Centre has told my partner to put in for Income Based Job Seekers for her self and for me to put in for Income support once i close my business. Can anyone confirm if this is correct.
Could we not just claim as a Couple on Income Based JSA or would it be better as they told us above.
Any Pro's and Con's to the above
Many Thanks
chris

I can't see anything from your post that would warrant you getting Income support.
What is Income Support?
This is extra money to help people on a low income.
It is for people who don't have to sign on as unemployed.
This could be if you are:- sick or disabled
- a lone parent responsible for a child under 12 years of age
- a carer, or
- registered blind.
It is for people who:- are 16 to 59 years old
- have a low income
- work less than 16 hours a week
- are not in full-time study
- do not get Jobseeker's Allowance
- do not have savings above £16,000, and
- live in Great Britain

I do not think the advice you have been given is correct.
You should make a joint claim for income based JSA, it might be an idea to speak to a supervisor in order to get this confirmed at the Job Centre.0 -
Cheers for that, Must been the Job Centre giving wrong information out as normal,
So is the best way for me to End my Bussines before my GF's JobSeekers runs out on Dec 14th and then tell them we want to sign on as a Couple for income based jsa

Apart from getting a job, the best way is a joint JSA claim.

I started the thread to ask about closing down a self emplyoed business

The people commenting are only going on personal experience, when there could be many different variables affecting their claims.
If your business is no longer viable, and you can demonstrate this, there is no reason that your claim should be sanctioned.Gone ... or have I?0
