DVD decoder missing?!

Hi, for some unknown reason the computer DVD player won't play DVDs!! I've read the past posts on DVD decoders concering ripping DVDs but I just want to play one!!
It says on the front that it's a DVD player, and it's setup page says its configured to region 2. But it won't play! It says I need a decoder. I've put the CDRom that came with it in it, but it says it is fully updated. This is a new computer from Ebuyer - so shouldn't it have come with the right stuff? everything else was pre-installed. I dont really want to download a different player, as it is my chap's computer, and if I wanted to use DVD shrink, and go through all that time and palava, I've got it elsewhere. I just want to play DVDs on the DVD player!?!
Thanks for your help

What operating system are you using?0

Try VLC - free and cross platform

Should just work without any extra software.0 -
Another vote for VLC, good all rounder.0

If this new PC wasn't furnished with a copy of PowerDVD, WinDVD or similar try installing the DScaler Media Decoders.0

Do you really think that this will help the OP?

I meant...do you think that she would be able to make any sense of it? Didn't mean to suggest that it wasn't helpful.0 -
It's simple enough - download, run, click 'Next' a few times and you're done. No need to install another player, no need to configure anything... provided the computer concerned is running Windows.

Actually it is what the OP requested. Perhaps I underestimated....0
