Paypal Fees ??

I recieve a few transactions a week via paypal, they are mostly for 1.99 and I get charged 27 pence and every 4th one is 28 pence. I suppose this is them rounding up the 10ths of pennies. I also sell the odd higher value item ( several hundred pounds ) and can often get fees of £12 or more for accepting payment via paypal. Yesterday I had a buyer from germany who paid via paypal and the fee was only £3.50 on the tranaction of well over £400. How do they calculate that? This has me quite confused - not that I am complaining.
Also of late, I have had a few people buy my high value items and pay by paypal only to not have a confirmed address. I have refund the payment and asked them to make the payment another way - all but one have been happy to make other arrangements. Has anyone else been having this sort of problem lately.

one thing to watch out for, my brother has just sold a laptop, the paypal transaction says 'ineligble for seller protection' even though the buyers address is verified, money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

It's not entirely free. True, you don't pay a withdrawal fee but in some ways it's worse - if you make a claim through paypal you always pay a $15 handling charge even if the item wan't purchased through ebay. You also pay to receive credit/debit card payments.0
