  • £2.06 :confused: , sounds like your husband is working for 1971 wages, what about the minimum wage?

all the money earned (including tips) that goes through payroll counts toward the minimum wage. the law doesn't say that the employer has to pay £5.05 per hour. as long as at the end of the pay period, the pay averages out to at least the minimum wage per hour, the employer is off the hook.

the minimum wage is a joke. in london, the current living wage is £7.05 per hour. i'm still waiting for the day when someone will enforce it.

and regarding the break situation, i would say that in the majority of restaurants i've worked in, the staff do not get a break. who is going to look after your tables or the bar while you're off on your break?

    omg - thats bad.

I learnt something new today :D
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

I always leave a tip at the hard rock cafe in cash too so it isnt included as wages, the staff work really hard and are always freindly its a great dinning experiance and well worth a trip. ok the prices for burger and chips is alot but they are really good, way nicer than any other burger places. I highly recomend the Cajun Chicken sandwich if anyone goes and the New York strip if you want to push the boat out.

Wow I never knew they only got 2.60 an hour. Thats disgusting.
I dont believe in tipping as I only get about the minimum wage so if we go out for dinner we have saved for it. We dont order drinks to save money so I never saw why I should then spend our drink money on a tip for someone that just does their job. When I worked as a waitress I never expected a tip and I could live of my wage.
But after hearing that they may only get 2.60 an hour, Ill have to have a rethink about not tipping.

well i am not sure what the min wage is at HRC but if its that bad i am sure they can get another job at another restuarant that do pay the min wage and not rely on tips.. Macs maybe.... The tips thing is well confusing i thought tips were not classed as take for the restuarant? if it did the restaurant will have to pay tax on it which i am sure they wont.

At the end of the day tipping should be optional i really hate places that add it on automatically some places in London add 15%....

I do believe that the service at hard rock is mostly good and a little tip is essential. there is a very common thing that happens though when the food comes and its not that good ppl often tip less but you have to remember you are only tipping the waiter not the kitchen!!!!!! the waiter has done no wrong..

I didnt realise thet the wage at the cafe was so low, I will ask a few people I know a the Manchester cafe. One thing I do know is the servers double at least, their wage with tips, one guy I know at the cafe went on to serving because he was seeing how much extra they earnt in tips he enjoyed it but it was only a temp thing.
At the hard rock soft drinks are free refills sometimes the server is really on the ball and you glass is never empty and plates are cleared quickly they get the order right that is what I like the tip is in cash and good, if the server is never seen after dropping the plates and my only drink then the tip goes on the bill and proberbly isnt as good.

In the Us tipping is annoying they expect a tip no matter what, I was in Newark airport once and the guy that server us was shocking the plates were thrown at us the food wasnt hot and we never got the chance to say anything he didnt even try to sell us repeate drinks and we were sat at the counter it was terrible, we compalned to the manager but he wasnt interested and would only offer 10% off. we didnt leave a tip and we continued walking round the shops when we walked past the food place the server came over with a laminated sheet about tipping telling me I should leave a tip of 15-20% I told him the service was non existant and walked on and he followed us untill I told him to P*** **f.
What does annoy me is when places automatically add a tip on to the bill not giving me the option The hard rock cafe in Dublin does this.
  • A small trick to avoid the queues, go to the shop across the road and buy an All access pack,
You get a bag, 2 pin badges and a card
The card that entitles you to first available seating, the card also acts as a loyalty card and you earn 10% of your spend back the card upon registration receives an automatic £12/$20 the amounts are credited after every £120/$200 spent.
There were other gifts inside my bag so who knows what else you will get. The cost was £17 but when the card is worth £12, the pins they sell for either £6 or £8 so everything else is a bonus.

I used mine in New York a few years ago the wait was 2 hours I was seated within 10 minutes. Its a shame that only the London cafe are doing this offer as I live closer to the manchester cafe. I did hear somewhere that the rest of them are offering 20% off everything but I dont know if this is true.

I agree. Get an all access card and it's valid for life. I have been using mine for around 6 years now. When we went to the Hard Rock in Orlando there was usually a minimum one hour wait at weekends. At the door I used to flash the card and get seated immediately.

Hang on a minute! They do NOT get paid £2.06 per hour. As has been pointed out, they must, by law, be paid the minimum wage. So it doesn't matter whether you tip them or not - the management must top up the wages if necessary. I think it was a bit misleading of the earlier poster to suggest this figure.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.
