Heating allowance for S.O. on benefits

Hi, I'm currently on incapacity benefit. My property has a problem with heating. Last year the bill was unbelievable. Does anyone know if I'm entitled to any allowance for the heating at my property? Thx.

There is not any allowance for heating, the money has to come out of your Incapacity Benefit.

there is the cold weather payments of £30 when the temperature is below 0'C on 7 consecutive days. i'm hoping for a nice cold winter to get some of these!

Pretty self defeating when the payments go straight on paying extra utility bills!

This is not paid to those just on IB.

Why are your bills so high? Is it consumption on your part, the type of tariff or because the property is poorly insulated or the boiler is inefficient, for example?

Are you a houseowner or tenant (if so, private or social housing)?

Speak to your energy provider, have a look at energy efficiency/energy charity websites but also have a good look at your local council website.

Some councils offer grants to landlords to upgrade their properties or will have details of schemes where tenants on benefits can get improvements made to heating and insulation.

not really when my gas/elec/water bills are very low. one £30 cold weather payment will pay for most of my year's gas

true, the cold weather payment can be paid to people who receive pension credit or income support or income based jobseekers allowance and people who receive a pensioner or disability premium or have a child who is disabled or under the age of 5
