Eating out :- Ambleside: Lucys on a Plate, Zefferallias, the White Lion Pub. There is a good indian in Windemere but can't remember it's name.
There is plenty of choice in both Windemere/Bowness and Ambleside for food.
Bike Hire we have used Biketreks, Rydal Rd, Ambleside, Cumbria LA22 9AN
Tel: 015394 3124
There are loads of trails my favorite is starting in eltwater and going over the tops. but you a pick up a bike map for about a pound with 6-7 different trails.
the other option would be to go into grizedale forest and hire a bike and do some of the trails around there.

Ditto above, there are plenty of restaurants and pubs in both windermere and Ambleside. In Ambleside you will find Indian, Chinese, pub grub and for something special go to The Glass House, which is an old mill converted into a restaurant - admittedly it is fairly expensive, but for a treat, its lovely!
Plenty of places for a hearty brekkie too before you start off on your cycle trails!!You never know how far you can fly, till you spread your wings.0 -

The best place that we like to eat at is "The Jumble Room" in Grasmere: www.thejumbleroom.co.uk Simply divine. Expensive, but well worth it.
Also nice to eat at is The Drunken Duck: http://www.drunkenduckinn.co.uk/
We tried The Glass House when we went in February. The food was nice, but the atmosphere wasn't up to that of The Jumble Room (where we'd eaten two nights before! ).
At Zefferelli's, you can get a special 2 course meal with cinema ticket deal for about £15 per head. Well worth it. My OH was shocked to find that it was a vegetarian restaurant (he hates vegetables), but was soon placated by the portion sizes and tasty food!
