I hate my wedding photos

Some of you will remember my dilemma over photographers.I had narrowed it down to 2,one expensive option and one cheap one.I went for the cheaper option and I have to say it was definately the wrong decicion.
I have just recieved the images on disc today and i dont like them.I look hideous in all of them. The photogrpher would not take a photo wiuthout me smiling so in all I am grinning like a maniac and its not flattering!!!
It was supposed to be candid/reportage style but we did have quite a long time spend on set/staged shots on the day and its ended up with over 90% of the shots being obviously staged/set-up.Awful!
Some of the shots, and these are the best ones which he has put on disc for us,are blurry, bad colour,me with eyes all weird or half shut(look drunk in some but I didnt have a drink).
There are maybe 2 good ones of my daughter and 2 great ones of my dogs. The rest are mediocre at best and no better than the shots we took ourselves on our little cheap digital camera.
The moral of the story is DONT SKIMP ON THE PHOTOGRAPHER!!!
IF YOU DO IT IS SOMETHING YOU WILL RGERET FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE AS I WILL.
BTW THE ONE IN MY AVATER IS A FAMILY SNAPSHOT TAKEN BY MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER ON THE WEDDING DAY AND BETTER THAN ANY FROM THE PROFFESSIONAL.

Thankyou. I convinced my OH to splash out on the photographer as I would rather make cut backs in other areas. You have affirmed my choice now and I am glad. xxWildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls

Really sorry to hear this, many people thought we were mad to spend a lot on a photographer and many also said that a photographer isn't that important.
Well in my opinion looking through my photo's brings me happy memories of the day, they were flattering, non shiny, artistic and 100 times better than any of the drunken unflattering ones my friend's took.0 -
I was really saddended by your post. I am a wedding photographer and in my job I see some awful wedding photos. Some very bad photographers are posted on this site as recommendations and when I go and check them out I am sometimes really surprised at the low standards.
There is no rule to say low cost = low standards and high cost = great photography but there are not many great photographers who have spent years learning the job, thousands on kit and has many years experience charging next to nothing.
I am doing a re-shoot with a couple who were very unhappy with their photographer in the spring. Maybe you can get your dress on again and do something similar? I know it's not the same but it will be fun and you will have something lovely that might just take the edge off it?It all works out good in the end.If it's not good, it's not the end!0 -
So sorry to hear you are not happy. Has anyone else seen the pictures and commented (hoping that its just that you don't like 'you' in the pictures??) Otherwise are you going to get your money back?:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0

Hiya - thats sooo awful for you
Have you spoken to the photographer yet about all this?? If so, what have they said????Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
My husband says they are just like family snapshots,no better than we take ourselves, but he is happy with them.He says that at least we have images of everyone all together as we had an extra person with a camera.
There is one I can edit myself to get a large picture printed and there are 2 great ones of my dogs, those alone would have cost a fortune from a pet portrait photographer.I just thought that someone with such expensive equipment would have taken far better shots. My fav one is of us running with the dogs.Theres only one like that and our couple shoot was meant to be us playing with the dogs so sad to have just one image of that.
Theres loads missing which I know he took,e.g.I know he took shots of us struggling to get back up the hill after family portrait outside,I thought that would be a funny shot with the men all shoving the ladies up the hill with hands on bums, but they are just not there.I think he had sent me the ones he thinks are good(all the staged ones) but I expect I would have preferred the ones he has ditched.
I am going to contact the expensive photographer who I should have chosen and get a portrait done for our anniversary, gives me a year to save up more money.
My daughter even commented on the quality of the proffessional shots saying,"but they look just like ours",and,"dont worry mummy,I will do it next time instead".Even she at 7 years old can see her images are better than the proffessionals and that was without prompting and without her even knowing I didnt like the photos.
Hubby says maybe we are just good at taking photos ourselves and perhaps most people would be happy with the photographers work.
I will ask him about the missing images I expected to see and leave it at that.I dont understand how he can have good shots on his website though and give us such poor ones, maybe he just had a some lucky shots and those are the ones on the web.Its a shame they dont reflect his actual ability,I feel cheated but sort of feel its my own fault for being cheap."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
He sent me more pictures of the ones I requested and re-edited another one I liked which needed fixed.
Looking forward to getting a proper proffessional portrait done of just me and hubby next year though."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
Aww honey, that's awful. Can I just say though , that even though I haven't had my wedding photos done yet, my wedding photographer did me a free shoot of my DD and I absolutely love them. He's charging £440 for the day from 2pm until 9pm and that includes all the pics on a disc and an album of 50 pics. I was going to hire someone else who is really expensive normally but his customer service was useless so I cancelled him and went for this new one. I'm so glad I did because so far his photos are brilliant. Will report back after we have our wedding pics back and let you know what they are like, Tiger xxMarried the most amazing man 05/12/09 and it was the best day ever, I'm a Mrs, he he!!:jWins 2009: Peroni Alessi bowl woohoo, 1 in 10 wins DVD from Maltesers, Avon lippy!!!Freebies-Bold Gel, CoffeePinecone Research - £9Mystery Shopping - £150

aww sorry you feeling so bad, your daughter sounds like mine she is only just 5 and has taken some amazing photos!
My MIL2b was wanting me to book the same guy that her SIL used but i was not overly keen as during the wedding he was useless and lacked any direction at all. People did not know where to stand or what was happening!
The lady i have chosen is lovely, i could tell she was nice enough to be approachable but also got enough balls to get people in place;)
I would demand all the images on a disc from your photographer and tell him exactly how you feel .. I would also just like to say my photographer told us that some dont put the images on high quality discs so that its harder to print quality copies from it so its worth a bit of homework on the disc you have been given.would love to win an ipad!
