Free texts overseas from computer

Hello
Does anybody know of a free SMS service for sending texts from a computer here in the UK to a South African mobile.
My wife is there at present and I thought it would be nice just to say goodnight etc etc to her.
I believe some sites are free to send, but the receiver's phobne is then charged a hefty premium for the receipt. I obviously want to avoid that.
Regards !
ps I wouldn't even mind paying a few pence, but I think normal texts are very high. I don't know for sure though. I have a contract with Vodafone

Does the end user get charged as well ?0

you can send moderately cheap SMSs from skype using skypeout (7.5p), however your wife will not be able to reply to them

if this is a regular thing best bet would be for her to have a roaming UK registered mobile then you could send her texts as tho she was in the UK and it'd be free for her to receive them. she could then reply if needs be but at international roaming rates at 40p+ per message (and multiples thereof for messages over 1 standard text length)0 -

not under any UK tariff, would be very odd to charge for SMSs received overseas (obv receiving calls is a different matter)
another one to watch is if you take a UK mobile abroad be sure voicemail is turned OFF as some operators treat voicemail as an international call received to the mobile PLUS a diverted call from the country you're in back to your mailbox in the UK (eg O2)0 -

No. The only times end users get charged is when networks charge to receive calls and SMS anyway. I think the US and Hong Kong are included in this..
Nothing to do with 18185.
In future, look at O2 Simplicity tariff if you spend time abroad. Roaming SMS is inclusive. 10p to send from UK. Cashback is available via Quidco.0 -
