Getting rid of shares
Diddlums
Some years ago, I bought a small number of shares in a few firms, in the (mistaken!) belief that, by receiving their annual reports and attending their AGMs, I could affect how those firms behave. Now I am fed up with having to enter on my tax return the small dividends I receive from these shares, and I want to get rid of the shares as cheaply as possible. I don't want to pay a broker a hefty commission for selling only about ten shares in each company. Can I give them away to a good cause or to a relative or friend? Or is there any other way of painlessly unloading them?
